Do you know this story? 500 years of Estonian books
2025 - Estonian National Museum
2025 marked 500 years since the publication of the oldest printed word in Estonian. For that occasion Estonian National Museum had something we called Book Year cluster exhibition. It meant that we had multiple exhibitions and events related to Estonian literature throughout the year.
For the main poster I used color orange and typeface from Estonian Book 500 official brand's brandbook, in the background I used a page that has the first known mention of Estonian book. In the foreground of the design I used an element "rooster in flames" which was originally a part of a big wall panel in our museum, designed by Siiri Taimla-Rannala for the occasion of book year. I used this element because rooster has multiple meanings in Estonian folklore. First it means fire - which in the poster symbolizes the event of book burning in the medieval times, during which a lot of Estonian literature was destroyed. Rooster has also been the symbol of ABC-book for years.
